Over the past decade, the United States has seen billions, if not trillions, worth of damage done by through floods. A quality Flood Insurance (Allen, TX and Plano, TX included) plan is absolutely necessary if you live in an area where flooding is even a small possibility. All throughout the Mid-West, in states like Iowa, Tennessee, and Illinois, flooding has destroyed thousands upon thousands of homes, taking people’s lives along with it. Many of these people were without flood insurance, and thus, once the flood waters washed over their homes, were without homes, cars, or any of their personal possessions.
Standard Homeowners Insurance does not typically cover floods, a fact that catches many homeowners off guard. It is imperative to obtain a separate Flood Insurance plan. Currently, only one out of every five homes that are considered at risk for flooding, are covered by a Flood insurance policy. Your home does not have to be next to a river for it to be considered at risk for a flood. A flood can occur after a hurricane, a landslide, or even an earthquake. The only way to obtain Flood Insurance is through the National Flood Insurance Program, a program created by the federal government in the late 60’s. It is imperative that homeowners purchase flood insurance as soon as possible, as the policy does not take effect until 30 days after the homeowner purchases the policy.
